Empowering An Edge for Service Providers in Chicago

March 4, 2020

Our second Chicago Edge Data Center will create a Campus that can support customer requirements for both hyperlocal and hyperscale requirements in the Midwest.

Elk Grove Village, adjacent to Ohare International Airport and less than 25 miles from Chicago, is known as “The Exceptional Community,” and the area’s motto is actually quite on point when you think about it. Chicago is, after all, home to the second-highest concentration of Fortune 500 headquarters in the U.S.

From any data center operator’s perspective, Elk Grove and the greater Chicagoland area is a treasure trove of major national and global companies, including Caterpillar, Archer Daniels Midland, John Deere, Baxter Pharmaceuticals, Allstate, United Airlines, Boeing and a host of other financial and manufacturing organizations.

With a strong interest in leveraging the benefits of Cloud, IoT, AI, and big data deployments, the need for Edge Data Centers in Chicagoland has never been greater. In other words, it’s an exceptional opportunity for our service provider customers and partners to not only serve the local Chicago community but also the greater Midwest region.

Expanding our Data Center Footprint in Chicago

Chicago downtown

Expanding our local Edge footprint in markets like Chicago to ensure our customers can operate competitively in today’s data-driven market is core to our company’s mission.

The expanded Chicago Edge Data Center® Campus will have a total capacity of 26MW empowering cloud and network service providers. With a growing presence and investment in the area, EdgeConneX will be able to offer an even more powerful, carrier-neutral, purpose-built network connectivity platform for cloud, content, network and IT providers to deploy their infrastructure in close proximity to their customers.

Inside our campus facilities, cloud, content and other service providers can set out the low latency, local and secure cloud on-ramps their end-users need. This gives enterprises in the greater Chicago metro area the ability to implement integrated edge solutions and optimize traffic flows as they see fit. Thanks to our partnerships with both providers and cloud enablers/accelerators like Rackspace and Megaport, local enterprises can securely access leading cloud players like AWS, Microsoft, Google and Oracle to establish the multi-hybrid cloud deployments they require. Just like we’ve done elsewhere, we’re bringing the cloud to our customers where they operate, at the Edge.

The Edge is growing fast in Chicago. Let us know if you have any questions we can answer for you, or if you’d like to prebook a tour of the Chicago campus. And stay tuned for more updates.
